Talented Teens – Young Drummer shares his story

I have learnt I am string and can deal with lots.

Max Mealey is a 15 year old drummer from Liverpool.
1. How did you start doing what you do?
I got my first play kit when I was 4 and never stopped playing on it.  At aged 7 I started drum lessons and never stop playing.  My mum and dad had our garage converted into a music room and I have a big pearl drum set.
2. Who supported you along the way?
My mum and dad have been the main support but also my twin brother Scott.  We have played in  quite a few bands together now , he plays guitar and he has encouraged me to do my drum videos.
 3. What were the high points?
A band we where in aged 12 where nearly signed by a record label and we also done Britain’s got talent and got down from 40,000 to last 150 but split not long after and was quite nasty.
 4. What were the low points?
Having lots of blisters on my hands through drumming all the time and when my band split.
5. Have you had any negative reactions? How did you deal with them?
Have had negative reactions when I have been in other bands on youtube and facebook, but you just learn to ignore them. Its not worth reacting because you just lower yourself to their level.
6. How have other young people reacted to you?
Lots of my friends all love my drum covers and are really supportive.
7. What have you learnt about yourself through the process?
Have learnt that i am strong and can deal with lots.  When my band split up it was not very nice.
8. What skills/abilities have you developed along the way?
More drum stick tricks and better technique and more confidence.

9. What advice would you have for other young people?
Practice all different techniques and genres of music.
