The 5 Biggest Obstacles Standing In the Way of Your Coaching Business Success

I think the teacher in me just naturally loves using acronyms and lessons that follow an easy word pattern . . . and today is no different. As it turns out, each obstacle begins with the letter ‘M”.
Honestly, each obstacle is a lesson worthy of a book but since I don’t have that much space I will keep it brief and to the point.
Obstacle #1 is MINDSET.
How is your thinking?
If you can’t get beyond THIS, your youth coaching business will not grow. AND your relationships will suffer. Your finances will suffer. Your dreams will suffer. Whether you are trying to make the first $1000 or you want to add a zero to your income’s bottom line, it all starts in your mind. Yep, the stuff that lives between your ears. Your thoughts. Your fears. Your self-talk. Your secrets. Your beliefs.
Obstacle #2 is MARKET.
Who is your target market? In plain language, who would buy your products or services?
There are a bazillion parents in the world and they don’t ALL want or need your service. You MUST get crystal clear on your target market by drilling further into the parenting arena. (Remember, you may work with youth but parents pay the bill)
As long as you keep trying to market to ALL parents . . . NO parent will notice you.
Obstacle #3 is METHOD.
Where are you connecting?
You have 2 choices.
- If you want to grow your youth coaching business slowly, use Google and social media sites to search for your target parents one-by-one.
- If you want to QUICKLY grow your youth coaching business, find out where your target market hangs out in groups and connect with them there!
Obstacle #4 is MESSAGE.
What are you saying?
You may identify the right Market and find the best Method for reaching them BUT if you aren’t delivering the right MESSAGE . . . game over!
What is your response when a parent says “What do you do?”
This is actually the make or break moment for your business growth.
- Your answer must capture their interest in about 4 seconds or truthfully they stop listening.
- Your answer must tell them how you can solve their problem.
Obstacle #5 is MODEL.
When will your business succeed?
I have to be honest. I am watching a number of you struggle to stay afloat. And those who are floating comfortably are exhausted from working hours-for-dollars.
I am in NO way doubting your skill or your heart, but like the title of my book says “PASSION WON’T PAY THE BILLS!” You need a business model that supports multiple streams of income.
Actually, one of the major reasons I founded the International Association of Parenting Coaches and Consultants is to show Youth and Parent Coaches “how” to operate your passion as a Profitable Business.
